Virginia Tech tries to down FSU in ACC Coastal matchup

Nov 10, 2007 - 11:32 AM Florida St (6-3) at No. 11 Virginia Tech (7-2) 3:30 pm EST

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) -- Sean Glennon certainly did not play like a backup last week.

Glennon and No. 11 Virginia Tech try to move closer to the ACC Coastal Division title when they host Florida State on Saturday.

Making his second consecutive start in place of injured freshman Tyrod Taylor (sprained ankle), Glennon led the Hokies to a 27-3 triumph at Georgia Tech last Thursday.

Glennon, who had to wear a Georgia Tech jersey top because his was lost, tossed two touchdowns and ran for another score for Virginia Tech (7-2, 4-1 ACC Coastal), which had blown a 10-point lead in the final three minutes the previous week vs. Boston College.

Virginia Tech is a half-game behind Virginia, which it plays in Charlottesville on November 24, for the Coastal lead.

Florida State (6-3, 3-3 Atlantic) knocked Boston College from the ranks of the unbeaten last Saturday with a 27-17 triumph over the No. 2 Eagles in Chestnut Hill.

Drew Weatherford threw for 354 yards and two TDs for the Seminoles, who clinched the win on Geno Hayes' 38-yard interception return with 1:10 left.

The teams last met in the inaugural ACC title game in Jacksonville two years ago, when Florida State upset Virginia Tech, 27-22, to book a spot in the Orange Bowl.
