Kentucky looks to end skid at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - A month ago, Kentucky was leading the SEC East. Now Andre Woodson and the Wildcats must win to avoid the division cellar.

Woodson and the slumping No. 25 Wildcats look to end their woes Saturday when they visit Vanderbilt in a matchup of the bottom two teams in the division.

Kentucky (6-3, 2-3 SEC East) was 5-0 and ranked eighth in the country before coming up short at South Carolina, 38-23, on October 4. The Wildcats stunned No. 1 Louisiana State in triple overtime the next week, 43-37, and moved up to seventh in the media poll, but they have dropped back-to-back games since to Florida and Mississippi State.

The Wildcats have not placed since their 31-14 home setback to the Bulldogs on October 27, a game in which they gave up six turnovers - all in the second half. Woodson slipped from Heisman Trophy contention by tossing three interceptions in the defeat.

Vanderbilt (5-4, 2-4 East) had won consecutive contests - the first a 17-6 road upset of then-No. 6 South Carolina - before getting crushed by the Gators in Gainesville last Saturday, 49-22.

Mackenzi Adams completed just 16-of-32 passes for 159 yards and two interceptions for the Commodores, who surrendered 35 first-half points and never came close to threatening in the second half.

Kentucky has won the last three encounters following a 28-17 setback here in 2003.
