Tennessee Tech coach Watson Brown announces retirement

(AP) Tennessee Tech football coach Watson Brown has announced his retirement.Brown posted a 136-211-1 record in a 31-year head coaching career that included stops at Austin Peay (1979-80), Cincinnati (1983), Rice (1984-85), Vanderbilt (1986-90) and UAB (1995-2006). Including stints as an assistant, Brown spent 43 seasons overall in college coaching.
The 65-year-old Brown was 42-60 in nine seasons at Tennessee Tech, including a 4-7 mark this season. Tennessee Tech won a share of the Ohio Valley Conference title in 2011, its first league championship in 36 years.
Brown is the brother of former Texas coach Mack Brown.
Tennessee Tech athletic director Mark Wilson says assistant head coach Dewayne Alexander will serve as acting head coach while the school conducts a national search for Brown's successor.
