Injury-marred Louisville visits Kansas State

Sep 19, 2006 - 9:05 PM No. 8 Louisville (3-0) at Kansas St (3-0), 12:10 pm EDT

MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) - Hunter Cantwell will start behind center as No. 8 Louisville looks to continue overcoming its injury woes Saturday against Kansas State.

Already without running back Michael Bush, who is out for the year with a broken leg suffered in the season opener, the Cardinals (3-0) lost star quarterback Brian Brohm for up to six weeks with sprained ligaments in his right thumb in a 31-7 trouncing of then-No. 17 Miami last weekend.

Cantwell, who also filled in for Brohm late last season after the starter suffered an ACL tear, completed 3-of-4 passes for 113 yards and a score and Kolby Smith rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the romp.

Kansas State (3-0) remained perfect on the season with last weekend's 23-7 victory over Marshall, its first Division I-A opponent. Ron Prince has a chance to become the first coach in school history to win his first four games.

The defense of the Wildcats has not yielded a touchdown in the last eight quarters. Marshall's lone score came off a blocked punt.

While the Wildcats rank 14th in total defense (229.33 yards per game) and 12th in scoring defense (10.0), Louisville is first in both total offense (563.67) and scoring offense (50.67).

This will be the first meeting between the schools.
