Plenty of standouts in William & Mary spring game

Apr 16, 2016 - 9:21 PM (STATS) - The depth of this year's William & Mary football team was on display in the team's annual Green & Gold Game at Zable Stadium Saturday in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Coach Jimmye Laycock enters his 37th season coming off a 9-4 campaign in which the Tribe won a share of the CAA Football title with Richmond and James Madison.

The Tribe have a veteran offense led by senior quarterback Steve Cluley and running back Kendell Anderson, although the defense has been hit hard by graduation, most notably CAA co-defensive player of the year DeAndre Houston-Carson and four-year starting linebacker Luke Rhodes.

In the scrimmage, the offense scored two touchdowns and a pair of field goals, while the defense posted six sacks and forced a turnover.

Junior quarterback Jhalil Mosley had the chance to showcase his talents and he completed 7 of 11 passes for 80 yards with a 20-yard touchdown to sophomore wide running back Jack Armstrong (six receptions for 63 yards).

Sophomore Tommy McKee was 8 of 13 for 70 yards, while redshirt freshman Brandon Battle connected with wideout Grant Waxter for a 20-yard touchdown.

Redshirt freshman running back Albert Funderburke Jr. had a game-high 12 carries for 85 yards and classmate Brehon Britt added 10 carries for 48 yards.

Junior defensive end Xavier Roscoe totaled three of the six sacks, and senior cornerback Trey Reed forced a fumble that was recovered by sophomore linebacker Josh Dulaney.

William & Mary kicks off its season Sept. 1 with a visit to North Carolina State.
