Boston College hopes for drama-free game at NC State
Sep 19, 2006 - 10:29 PM No. 20 Boston College (3-0) at NC State (1-2), 8:00 pm EDTRALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - Coach Tom O'Brien's club seemingly cannot win easily but keeps on winning nevertheless.
After a pair of double-overtime victories, No. 20 Boston College hits the road to take on North Carolina State in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest.
Two weeks ago, the Eagles (3-0, 1-0 ACC Atlantic) edged Clemson, 34-33, in two overtimes in their league opener. Last weekend, Boston College again needed two extra sessions, this time to defeat BYU, 30-23.
Matt Ryan, who threw for 356 yards and two touchdowns, gave BC the lead with a scoring strike to Tony Gonzalez on the first play of the second overtime. Jamie Silva intercepted a pass by John Beck to end the game, giving O'Brien a school-record 69th victory.
North Carolina State (1-2, 0-0 Atlantic) has dropped back-to-back games, leading to further speculation that coach Chuck Amato's tenure may be coming to an end.
Last weekend, the Wolfpack absorbed a 37-17 setback at Southern Mississippi, which rushed for 261 yards.
Marcus Stone completed just 10-of-24 passes for 100 yards and a pair of third-quarter interceptions for the Wolfpack. Backup Daniel Evans went 8-for-11 for 97 yards and a touchdown and will get the start this week.
BC is 2-1 against NC State, recording a 30-10 home victory last year in their first meeting as ACC opponents.
