Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Florida Gators Odds & Game Pick (2021)

Sep 17, 2021 - 10:04 AM

A pair of SEC juggernauts will go at it on Saturday in Gainesville as the #1 ranked Crimson Tide visits the #11 ranked Florida Gators. Unlike games of the past, neither team has a bonafide superstar (yet) under center, and while there are ample 5-stars on both sides, games like this are where those legends are made.

Let’s take a closer look at this all-time college football rivalry and see where the value remains.

Overview

While Bryce Young might not yet be superstar status, he could very well be on his way. Before scoring three times last week vs. Mercer in a game that was never close, Young threw for another four the week prior vs. Miami to become the only Alabama quarterback in history to throw for seven through two games.  Though he will no doubt take a step up Saturday playing in front of a raucous crowd in the Swamp, all indications are Young should handle it just fine.

On the defensive side of the ball, Alabama is once again doing Alabama things, as the two-deep NFL talent unit quickly quieted what’s expected to be one of the better offenses in the country Week 1 vs. Miami allowing just 13 points.

For the Gators, the quarterback position is decidedly murkier as incumbent starter Emory Jones is still the starter; for now. Waiting in his shadow is freshman phenom Anthony Richardson, who has already seen the field in a limited capacity.

In that capacity, however, the dual-threat leads the entire SEC in rushing at 275 yards (on 11 carries). While he deals with a hamstring injury and learns the playbook, Jones is still the guy but expect to see Jones if healthy and the Gators fall down early.

Trends

  • The Crimson Tide are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games in the SEC
  • The Over is 5-0 in the Crimson Tide and Gators last five matchups

Bottom Line

Having not been to the Swamp since 2011, the Crimson Tide will undoubtedly be getting the warmest of welcomes from the Gator’s faithful Saturday and the scene should be electric. As for what happens between the lines, however, I expect far fewer fireworks.

While the threat of Richardson coming in and doing Manziel-like things does concern me, the fact we are getting Jones early is pointing me towards playing the first half here. Add in Alabama’s first half has been one of the best ATS bets in all of sports betting over the last few seasons, and I’m taking this one now.

Pick: Alabama 1H -8
