The annual late push for Notre Dame to make the CFP is well underway as the #8 Fighting Irish need more help this year than most following what has been an even tighter schedule than normal. For the visiting Yellow Jackets, a chance at spoiler is the only thing left to play for as they set 3-7 and outside bowl eligibility.

Overview 

Outside of an early-October loss to Cincinnati, the Fighting Irish have had an unblemished season to this point. Having now won five straight by 16+ points, they have also been seemingly been getting better each and every week. Over the last two weeks, they haven’t allowed either of their opponents (Navy and Virginia) to score a single touchdown.

Wisconsin transfer quarterback Jack Coan has also been getting better throughout the season for the Fighting Irish, having one of his best games of the season last week against Virginia where he threw for three touchdowns on the day. Running back Kyren Williams has powered Notre Dame’s rushing attack, as he has 872 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season thus far.

For the Yellow Jackets, things have only gotten worse following a 3-3 start, as the team has now dropped four straight (1-3 ATS) and has shown an inability to stop much of anything on defense. The last time we saw them on the field vs. Boston College, the Yellow Jackets gave up 505 yards and 41 points, adding to their ACC-bottom 447.8 yards and 30.2 points allowed per game.

Bottom Line

With the CFP very much in reach in the eyes of the Fighting Irish, I see Saturday being a foot on the throat kind of afternoon in what already is a lopsided affair. The 1-2 punch of Coan-Williams should feast on this Yellow Jacket defense, and I expect things to get out of hand rather quickly in South Bend.
