Ball, Johnson lead Georgia Tech to easy win vs. Virginia

Sep 22, 2006 - 4:58 AM ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Reggie Ball passed for two touchdowns and ran for a score to lead Georgia Tech to a 24-7 victory over Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

After Ball opened the scoring with a six-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, he connected with Calvin Johnson for a 58-yard touchdown with 68 seconds left in the opening half, giving Georgia Tech (3-1, 1-0 ACC Coastal) a 17-0 lead.

Ball extended the margin with a 66-yard TD pass to Johnson less than five minutes into the third quarter. It was Johnson's longest career touchdown.

Ball completed 10-of-19 passes for 205 yards.

One of the nation's top wide receivers, Johnson finished with six catches for 165 yards.

Travis Bell added a 47-yard field goal and Choice Tashard rushed for 83 yards for the Yellow Jackets, who have won three straight since a season-opening loss to Notre Dame.

Jameel Sewell threw a 16-yard TD pass to Kevin Ogletree in the fourth quarter for Virginia (1-3, 0-1 Coastal), which has been outscored by a lopsided 62-20 in losing both of its road games.

Sewell completed 15-of-31 passes for 115 yards and two interceptions.
