College Football Week 3 Early Odds, Picks & Prediction: Washington State vs. Colorado State

Washington State vs. Colorado State UNDER 54

These are some wretched offenses through the first two weeks of the season.  Colorado State is 0-2, and while they opened up on the road against Michigan in the big house, last week’s loss against MTSU at home is way more concerning.

New Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell had some killer offenses in his time at Nevada, but he brings a pass-heavy offense to a run-heavy roster under former HC Steve Addazio.  The result has been brutal so far. After 82 rush yards against Michigan, they went negative against MTSU because of all the sacks (9) given up with -10.  Colorado State is sitting at the second-worst run total, but if we took away the yardage lost from sacks, they would still only bump up from 130th to 121st.

Washington State is coming off a big win against Wisconsin, but they only earned 10 first downs, went 2-for-11 on third down, and put up just over 250 total yards.  The Cougars did put up 358 yards against FCS Idaho in Week 1, but three fumbles and only 23 minutes in time of possession held them to 24 total points.

The Cougars are 16.5-point favorites, and the only reason I’m not taking that is that I’m not sure I can trust them to get up by that many points!  We’re banking on the ineptitude of offenses here to stay under the total, but it feels pretty safe to me for this week, so I’m going to take it and hope it doesn’t make me sweat as most Unders do!

Bet: Under 54 (-110 on DraftKings)

What is Betting Against the Spread?

Betting “against the spread” refers to the act of choosing the winning team based on a numeric handicap placed on the team that oddsmakers believe is superior, rather than picking the outright winner. For example, if the Rams face the Bengals, and oddsmakers set the spread at Rams -3.5, you would need Los Angeles to win by 4 or more points in order to cash your Rams bet.

What is an Over/Under Bet?

Over/Under is a wager based on how many points you think will be scored in a specific game. Oddsmakers set the total, and bettors decide whether the final score will be higher or lower than that number. If an Over/Under is set at 44.5 points and you bet Over, you will need the combined score of both teams to be 45 points or higher to win your bet.

What is a Moneyline Bet?

A moneyline bet involves choosing which team you believe will win a specific matchup. The moneyline favorite carries a minus designation, like -130. This means that you need to wager $130 to earn a $100 profit. Conversely, the underdog carries a plus designation, like +110. This means that you win $110 in profit on a $100 bet.
