College Football Week 3 Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions (2022)

Sep 17, 2022 - 11:03 AM

Though it went the same way, last week’s parlay did not have quite the same level of drama as the previous weeks. Alabama’s potent offense was kept under lock thanks to Texas’ defense and could not score 21 points, much less cover -20.5.

However, this week, I think three road underdogs are worth looking at.

BYU (+3.5) at Oregon

BYU was one of my dark horse favorites to make the playoff thanks to their returning production and offensive line talent, which you can read about here. Last week, BYU survived its first test, defeating Baylor. It was an impressive win as BYU was without two of their star receivers. This week, this pick has just as much to do with Oregon’s signal caller as BYU. Bo Nix has beaten up on bad teams in his career but has been unable to deliver against top-25 opponents. Against ranked foes, Nix has a 6-11 record, 14 passing TDs to 14 INTs, a 56% completion percentage and an average of under 200 yards passing/game. Against a veteran unit that returns the most defensive production, Nix will surely struggle again.

UTSA (+12.5) at Texas

Everyone is high right now on Texas after taking Alabama to the wire. However, I think this poses a classic let-down spot. UTSA has been poor this season in pass coverage, ranking 119th per PFF’s rankings and allowing over 300 yards passing to Army last week—yes, Army. However, Texas will be unlikely to capitalize on this, given injuries to QB Quinn Ewers and backup QB Hudson Card. Card should still get the start but will be dealing with a sprained ankle and has had his reps limited in practice. The injuries should allow an already strong UTSA rush defense (19th in PFF’s metrics) to key in on Bijan Robinson.

Jeff Traylor has done a masterful job in San Antonio, bringing UTSA to its first-ever poll ranking last season. In addition, his UTSA bunch has been one of the best ATS, going 18-10 since his hiring in 2020. Expect a tight game that goes down to the wire here.

Miami (+6) at Texas A&M

Texas A&M is the picture of uncertainty on offense. Jimbo Fisher is fielding questions on whether Haynes King should continue as the starting QB, how long of a leash he should have if he does and whether Fisher should give up play-calling duties. The A&M offense should face another challenge this week. Kevin Steele is known for his unique defensive packages and blitzes. Steele will utilize his wide array of pass rusher talent to scheme pressures for Leonard Taylor, Jacob Lichtenstein and Antonio Moultrie, among others.

After winning the job from D’Eriq King midseason, QB Tyler Van Dyke excelled in his final six games last season, completing 65% of his passes and averaging 365 yards/game on his way to 20 TDs. Though Miami has played inferior opposition so far, it appears Van Dyke began right where he left off.

3-Leg College Football Parlay

  • BYU (+3.5) at Oregon
  • UTSA (+12.5) at Texas
