Well, this is it. This is officially it. As I’m sure you know by now, For Whom the Cowbell Tolls is set to be shut down due to a business decision that was made above our heads.

After tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 30, this site will be done.

And that’s pretty sad, all things considered. This chapter of the Mississippi State blogosphere is coming to a close. This was once the go-to site for Mississippi State internet fun for many people.

That includes me. And when I tell you I’m heartbroken about the decision that was made, I mean it.

But hey, that’s just the way life goes sometimes. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you’d hope. When I joined this site, I had hopes to be a contributor for years. When I became the managing editor, I had set my sights on this site becoming the best content production machine of any sort of SEC blog. When I ultimately left in 2018, I had hopes that this site would be able to continue on as strong as it was going when I made the choice to leave.

When I came back a few months back, I planned on doing what I could to get it going in the right direction once more.

But things change. Life changes. Circumstances change. It’s all natural. And this, unfortunately, is just how things go sometimes.

Leaving in 2018 was difficult for me, but I was excited to embark upon a new adventure and open up a new chapter. There seems to be a bit more permanence to this chapter coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be exciting and fun things ahead.

I’ll be over at The Underdog Tribune writing stuff and having a good time. I’ll even continue blogging about music and nonsense, the way I often did from 2015 to 2017 while I was here.

But there are other places to get great Mississippi State content too! Maroon and White Nation is one. Check out Cowbell Corner or The Reflector. Heck, you can look into the recruiting services, the official stuff coming out of Mississippi State’s athletic departments, the Maroon Mic podcast, or any number of Facebook groups. There are so many other great podcasts, writers, bloggers, and social media pages you can follow too. It’s kinda hard to keep up with all of them, to be honest.

As for this site, it’s done. I have no real clue what will happen with it and all of the great (and sometimes not so great) content that was created over the years. Maybe it’ll live on in perpetuity with this being the final post ever. Maybe it’ll get sunset.

I don’t know.

If the good folks here at SB Nation are ever interested in reviving it, I’d love to chat with them about such an idea. But I really have no control or sway in those sorts of discussions.

It sure looks like this chapter is officially coming to an end. Everything comes to an end at some point or another. Interestingly enough, on a personal note, the end to this chapter also coincides with a real life job change at my day job. Tomorrow is my last day with my real world job.

And things start new for me soon enough.

I’m grateful for all of the folks who have come through here at one time or another. This site has been incredible to be a small part of.

Thank you, Praise the Lord and Go Dawgs, #AlwaysRunNeverPass, Hail State, and Raid the Air. It’s been fun folks. I’m intrigued to see what life has in store for us up ahead.

One more time for the road. Since Mississippi State is playing the Aggies this weekend and he just retired, it just feels right to send this site out with this one.

Today’s Tunes:

Robert Earl Keen is one of the greatest Texans to ever write a song or carry a tune. An absolute icon for country music and certainly a central figure for Texas country music over the past couple decades. This is probably his best known song. Anyone who is trying to figure REK out should start with this one.

No one has shouted yet.
Be the first!
