College Football Bowl Game Prop Bets Picks & Predictions: Thursday (12/29)

Dec 27, 2022 - 12:15 PM

With four games on both Tuesday and Wednesday, we turn to a Thursday slate with just three games. With only a couple of days between now and the CFP, let’s take a closer look at the two games I’m dialed in on for Thursday’s action.

College Football Bowl Game Prop Bets Picks & Predictions: Thursday (12/29)

Oklahoma vs. (#13) Florida State

Regardless of what happens in this game, it’s safe to say that Florida State has their guy in head coach Mike Norvell. Following a three-game losing streak to start October, the Seminoles won five straight down the stretch, covering in four and scoring more than 38 points in all five games.

Quarterback Jordan Travis was a major catalyst of their success, and has already confirmed he’ll be returning next season. And most importantly for the short term, playing in this bowl game.

For Oklahoma, the same can’t be said. For new head coach Brent Venables, a 6-6 record is certainly not what the boosters had in mind for his first season. The problems were highlighted in their final regular season game, losing 48-51 to Texas Tech.

With the loss, the Sooners finished the regular season 100th or worse on defense in points, total yards, passing yards, and rushing yards allowed. Not ideal for a head coach known for his defense.

Look for Travis and Norvell to take advantage one final time in 2022.

Bet: Florida State Team Total – Over 36.5 (-110)

(#20) Texas vs. (#12) Washington

Finishing the regular season with just two losses, the Huskies finished with six straight wins on their way to finishing a game shy of the PAC-12 Championship game. Indiana transfer QB Michael Penix Jr. turned this Washington offense into one of the very best in the country, finishing the season #1 in passing yards per game at 376.6 and #1 in total offensive yards at 521.7.

For Texas, the Longhorns came just one point shy of knocking off Alabama in September, as head coach Steve Sarkisian continues his rebuild in Austin. Winning three of four down the stretch, Texas scored 34 points or more in all three wins, losing to only CFP Finalist TCU by more than three points this season.

Penix will be a major concern for Texas in this matchup, as the Longhorns allowed 239 yards through the air per game this season to rank 88th in the country. In a game that I expect to turn into a shootout, look for Washington to put up a big number.

Bet: Washington Team Total – Over 34.5 (-120)
