Gibbs to step down as Tactix netball coach
May 15, 2014 - 11:56 PM Mainland Tactix coach Leigh Gibbs will step down from the job at the end of the trans-Tasman netball season. She will retire from coaching to focus on developing young talent as head of high performance in New Zealand's Mainland zone, which covers Tasman, Marlborough and Canterbury.
A former Silver Ferns captain and coach, Gibbs has been with the Tactix since 2012, but the team have continued to struggle this trans-Tasman season and are bottom of the table.
She says she's proud of the competitive performances her players have put on the court this year even if the results haven't gone as hoped, and she had enjoyed working with assistant Julie Seymour.
"But I feel now is the right time to take my netball career in a different direction," she said.
"I'm excited by the player depth here at Mainland. We have some very gifted players coming through."
Netball Mainland chief executive Brigit Hearn said the process to recruit the next Tactix coach would begin in the next few weeks.
