Bucs shut down Chiefs

Aug 13, 2011 - 3:42 AM Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Josh Johnson finished 7-of-12 for 108 yards and a touchdown, while Josh Freeman threw for 73 yards and rushed for a score as Tampa Bay shut down Kansas City, 25-0, in the preseason opener for both teams.

Johnson added a team-best 57 yards rushing on five carries, while Dezmon Briscoe topped the list with 60 yards on four receptions for Tampa Bay, which went 10-6 in 2010 but did not make the playoffs.

Connor Barth added two field goals in the victory.

Micheal Spurlock caught a three-yard TD pass from Johnson in the third quarter and the Bucs defense also recorded a safety in the rout.

Tyler Palko and Ricky Stanzi combined to go 8-of-16 for 68 yards as the Chiefs racked up just 137 yards of total offense.

Jackie Battle posted 40 yards on 13 carries and hauled in three balls in defeat for the defending AFC West champions.
