Low Point: Jaguars deal Texans ninth straight loss
Nov 25, 2013 - 1:26 AM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Maurice Jones-Drew carried the ball 14 times for 84 yards and a touchdown to help the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 13-6 victory over the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium.Chad Henne managed the offense well, completing 23-of-32 passes for 239 yards for the Jaguars (2-9), who are now tied with the Texans for last place in the AFC South.
Case Keenum was 18-of-34 for 169 yards and an interception for the Texans (2-9), who have now lost nine straight following a 2-0 start. Dennis Johnson carried the ball 13 times for 74 yards.
With a 1:50 left in the game and the ball on their own 20, the Texans had a chance to drive down the field to tie the game.
"We suck as an offense. That's pretty much it," said Andre Johnson. "That's Ben's opinion. Everyone has a right to their opinion. It wasn't a good showing. We didn't play like the way we know how to play. We haven't done it all year basically. Like I said, we suck. That's pretty much it," said Johnson in response to Ben Tate feeling embarrassed for the city.
As they drove down field Keenum found Johnson for a 21-yard reception on third down. On the next play, Keenum hit Keshawn Martin 12 yards to enter Jacksonville territory.
After a spike to stop the clock and an incomplete pass, Keenum again targeted Martin, but he couldn't reel the ball in and after a couple of juggles, linebacker Ryan Davis came up with the pick to seal the deal.
"To keep a team like that to six points is a big deal," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said.
The Jaguars opened up the scoring on the first drive of the game, as they covered 75 yards in 10 plays. On a 4th-and-1, Jones-Drew capped the drive off with a 1-yard power run through the middle of the line.
Josh Scobee kicked a 30-yard field goal to put Jacksonville up 10-0 with 7:57 left in the second quarter.
"Obviously, we didn't execute worth a darn offensively. Defensively, we are on the field pretty much the whole football game. We battled our tails off. We can always do things better. But offensively, we just executed extremely poorly on some of the simple things that you have to go do to be successful. We didn't do them very well," said Texans head coach Gary Kubiak.
The Texans finally got themselves on the board on their last touch of the half via a Randy Bullock 49-yard field goal.
"It is a process up front," Bradley said. "We had good blocking up front. I thought it was more consistent blocking, and that's what we were striving for. We're consistently getting better week in and week out with the running game."
As the second half kicked off, Houston began with possession and produced its best drive of the game. They converted two third downs as they marched 83 yards in 13 plays before Bullock nailed a 20-yarder.
Jacksonville followed up with a lengthy drive of its own. The Jaguars also succeeded by converting three third downs. However, Scobee had his 49-yard attempt blocked by J.J. Watt.
Shiloh Keo recovered the block and was pushed out of bounds at the Jacksonville 49-yard line. The big play led to nothing on the scoreboard.
Scobee did nail a 53-yarder to give Jacksonville a 13-6 lead with 6:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.
