Raiders handle punchless Jaguars

Sep 16, 2013 - 3:11 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Darren McFadden amassed 157 yards from scrimmage, including 129 on the ground, and Sebastian Janikowski kicked four field goals to carry the Oakland Raiders to a 19-9 victory over the offense- starved Jacksonville Jaguars in their home opener at the Coliseum.

Oakland rolled to an easy win thanks to a lopsided 226-34 advantage in rushing yards and limiting the Jaguars to a mere 248 total yards.

Marcel Reece scored Oakland's only touchdown and Terrelle Pryor threw for 126 yards on 15-of-24 passing as the Raiders (1-1) rebounded from their season- opening loss at Indianapolis.

"We needed to win," Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said. "It does a lot for the confidence of our football team."

Jacksonville (0-2) scored its first touchdown of the season when the game was out of reach, as its offense was shut out in a 28-2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Adding injury to insult, running back Maurice Jones-Drew did not play during a one-sided second half after suffering an ankle injury.

Chad Henne, starting at quarterback for the injured Blaine Gabbert, threw for 241 yards and a touchdown on 25-of-38 passing.

Henne's 13-yard scoring strike to Clay Harbor with 2:53 remaining in regulation made the final score somewhat respectable since the Raiders were essentially in control from the opening kickoff.

"I'm proud we kept fighting," Henne said.

Phillip Adams' 30-yard punt return less than two minutes into the game set up the only touchdown of the first half. The Raiders took over at the Jaguars' 38-yard line, and five plays later, Reece took an inside handoff and powered in for an 11-yard TD with just 4:08 gone in the first quarter.

The only productive drive for Jacksonville in the first half lasted nearly seven minutes and stalled inside the Raiders' 10-yard line. The Jags had 1st- and-goal from the 3 and wound up settling for 27-yard Josh Scobee field goal midway through the second quarter.

Janikowski pushed a 35-yard attempt wide left on the ensuing possession but rebounded with a 46-yard make just before halftime.

Janikowski added a 30-yard field goal 5:42 into the third quarter to cap a 12- play march that stayed alive when Jacksonville lined up offsides on 4th-and-4 near midfield. The penalty negated a punt and gave the Raiders a first down, and McFadden's 30-yard run preceded Janikowski upping Oakland's lead to 13-3.

McFadden ripped off a 32-yard scamper into enemy territory late in the third quarter, and Janikowski was called on again for a 29-yard field goal 1:11 into the fourth.

Following the fourth consecutive three-and-out from the Jaguars, the Raiders kept the ball on the ground and moved into scoring position again, with this drive ending in Janikowski booting another 29-yarder with six minutes to go.

The only blemish on McFadden's day came when he lost a fumble near midfield with 4:44 remaining. It was the only turnover for either team and led to Jacksonville's lone TD.

Gabbert sat out due to a laceration on his throwing hand he sustained in the team's season opener ... Jones-Drew gained 27 yards on 10 carries before being sidelined ... Cecil Shorts led the Jaguars with 93 receiving yards on eight catches ... McFadden caught a team-high four passes for 28 yards.
