Seahawks feast on Jaguars, improve to 3-0

Sep 23, 2013 - 1:32 AM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Russell Wilson matched a career high with four touchdowns passes and the Seattle Seahawks stifled the Jacksonville Jaguars in a 45-17 rout on Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

Wilson completed 14-of-21 passes for 202 yards and an interception, with Zach Miller and Sidney Rice each hauling in two of Wilson's touchdown tosses. Backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who entered for Wilson late in the third with the game well in hand, threw for a score and ran for another.

"It was huge win for us," Wilson said. "Offensively we made a statement. Guys made tremendous plays, communication was great."

Marshawn Lynch rushed for 69 yards on 17 carries for the Seahawks (3-0), who were coming off a 29-3 demolition of the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers.

Chad Henne, making his second straight start in place of an injured Blaine Gabbert, struggled under center against Seattle's stout defense, connecting on just 18-of-38 passes for 235 yards and a pair of interceptions.

Maurice Jones-Drew carried the ball 19 times for 43 yards and a score for the Jaguars (0-3), who are off to their third 0-3 start in franchise history and first since dropping their initial four games during the 2003 campaign.

The loss spoiled the homecoming of Jacksonville head coach Gus Bradley, who had spent the last three seasons as Seattle's defensive coordinator before being hired by the Jags back in January.

"That is a very good defensive unit," Bradley said of the squad he used to guide. "We have to get back and find out who we are. I see guys making effort. We have a standard we have to hold up."

Seattle dominated the Jags from the start, holding Jacksonville to just four first downs and 52 total yards while racking up 16 first downs and 275 yards of offense in the first half en route to a 24-0 lead at the break.

Golden Tate opened Seattle's second touch with a 20-yard run on a reverse before Lynch followed two plays later with a 27-yard scamper to the Jacksonville 24. A pair of Lynch carries moved the ball to the Jags' goal line before Wilson faked a run and flipped a pass to a wide-open Miller in the back of the end zone to make it 7-0 just under seven minutes in.

Jacksonville lost yards on each of its next two touches before Wilson and Miller hooked up again early in the second quarter to double Seattle's lead.

Wilson converted a 3rd-and-10 from the Jacksonville 24 with a 20-yard toss to Tate on the first play of the stanza before capping the 6-play sequence with a 4-yard TD strike to Miller for a 14-0 lead less than a minute in.

Steven Hauschka hit a 21-yard field goal following a Jacksonville three-and- out to make it 17-0 before Bobby Wagner picked off a tipped pass from Henne at the Seattle 21 to give the Seahawks possession.

With under a minute left in the half, Wilson went to work, hitting Tate on back-to-back plays for a total of 35 yards before finding Rice for 23 more down to the Jacksonville 21. After scrambling for 10 yards, Wilson fired a strike to Rice in the middle of the end zone for an 11-yard TD and a 24-0 lead with 10 ticks left.

Jacksonville turned the ball over on its opening touch of the second half, as Denard Robinson, lined up in the wildcat, fumbled a handoff exchange with Ace Sanders, and Brandon Mebane jumped on the loose ball at the Jacksonville 33.

After an offside penalty on 3rd-and-5 extended the drive, Wilson rolled right and floated a pass into the end zone for Rice, who leaped in front of a defender and hauled in the 23-yard score to make it 31-0 just over three minutes into the third quarter.

The Jaguars finally cracked the scoreboard late in the frame when Paul Posluszny intercepted a tipped pass from Wilson and returned it 10 yards to the Seattle two to set up Jones-Drew's TD plunge that made it 31-7.

Jackson later took over and floated a pass deep down the right sideline for Doug Baldwin, who made a diving grab at the goal line for a 35-yard TD catch to make it 38-7 with 1:28 left in the third.

Cecil Shorts' 59-yard catch-and-run on Jacksonville's ensuing drive set up Josh Scobee's 33-yard field goal to trim the margin to 38-10.

Following a Seattle punt, Jordan Todman capped a 9-play, 52-yard scoring march with a 3-yard TD plunge to make it 38-17 with just over nine minutes left.

Jackson added a 5-yard TD run on Seattle's ensuing touch to account for the final margin.

Shorts led all receivers with eight catches for 143 yards ... Tate finished with five catches for 88 yards while Rice caught five passes for 79 yards ... Jackson's TD pass was his first since Jan. 1, 2012 with Seattle against Arizona ... Jacksonville has lost eight straight road games dating back to Sept. 23 of last season.
