Gore scores twice as 49ers defeat Titans

Oct 21, 2013 - 12:14 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Frank Gore rushed for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help lead the San Francisco 49ers to a 31-17 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Colin Kaepernick completed 13-of-21 passes for 199 yards and also rushed for 64 yards and a score and Anquan Boldin caught five passes for 74 yards for the 49ers (5-2), who have won their last four games.

"This is a great win for us, a huge road win. Special teams were outstanding, just playing with fire," said 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Jake Locker, who missed the last two games with a hip injury, completed 25- of-41 passes for 326 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and Chris Johnson finished with 110 total yards and a receiving touchdown for the Titans (3-4), who have dropped three straight.

"3-4 is not where we thought we'd be. The season is a long journey. We need to decide how the story finishes," said Titans head coach Mike Munchak.

Delanie Walker, who spent the first seven seasons of his career with San Francisco, caught a touchdown in the setback.

The 49ers came away with points on their first possession of the game. After stalling on the Titans' 25, Phil Dawson drilled a 44-yarder to cap a 12-play, 65-yard drive and make it 3-0.

After trading punts, Kaepernick's pass along the left side line was intercepted by Bernard Pollard, but an unnecessary roughness penalty negated the pick and gave San Fran the ball on the Titans' 23. Two plays later Kaepernick exploded around the left side and raced 20 yards for the score.

Locker was picked off on the ensuing touch by Tramaine Brock, and six plays later Gore bulldozed his way across the goal line from a yard out to make it a 17-0 game.

Earlier in the drive, Kaepernick was flushed out of the pocket to the right sideline. At the last moment, he fired a pass to Vance McDonald. The pass was tipped by a Tennessee defender and appeared to hit the ground and McDonald caught it at the 1, but following a Titans' challenge, the play was upheld.

Gore's second rushing score of the game capped a 12-play, 79-yard march to open up the second half and give the 49ers a commanding 24-0 lead.

A 31-yard Rob Bironas field goal early in the fourth got the Titans on the board and Johnson's 66-yard catch-and-run with just over seven minutes left in the game pulled the Titans within 24-10.

Kassim Osgood recovered a muffed punt in the end zone to push the 49ers lead to 31-10.

Locker connected with Walker for a 26-yard touchdown completion to make it 31-17.
