Cardinals come back to beat Glennon, Bucs

Sep 30, 2013 - 12:27 AM Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Jay Feely's 27-yard field goal with 1:29 remaining lifted the Arizona Cardinals to a 13-10 comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Tampa Bay rookie Mike Glennon was intercepted by Patrick Peterson late in the fourth quarter and Carson Palmer found Larry Fitzgerald in the end zone from 13 yards out to tie the score at 10-10.

"I was really surprised they threw towards him," said Arizona head coach Bruce Arians. "With the rookie quarterback, he's gonna make you pay. For a great athlete, Patrick studies the game extremely hard."

The Cardinals then sacked Glennon at the Tampa Bay 1, forcing a three-and-out and took advantage of the field position with Feely's 27-yard kick. Palmer's 19-yard pass to Jaron Brown, combined with an unnecessary roughness penalty on safety Dashon Goldson, brought the ball to the 9. After three runs, Feely booted the winning kick.

Peterson picked off Glennon for a second time with less than a minute remaining to seal the win for Arizona (2-2), which won on the road for the first time since Week 2 last season.

"I thought the fourth quarter was some of the best football we've played all year," said Arians. "I think all 53 guys had a hand in this win, and that's what it takes to win on the road in the NFL."

Palmer completed 21-of-38 passes for 248 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for Arizona, which ran off 13 straight points in the fourth quarter.

Glennon, named the starter after Josh Freeman was benched during the week, threw for 193 yards on 24-for-43 passing with a touchdown and two picks for the Buccaneers (0-4). Glennon also lost a fumble in his first career start.

"Definitely a learning experience," said Glennon. "Tough one to swallow."

Gerald McCoy busted through the line and sacked Palmer on the first play from scrimmage, setting the tone for the Bucs defense, which forced a quick three- and-out. On Arizona's next series, Rashard Mendenhall coughed the ball up near midfield and McCoy was there to pounce on it.

Glennon's first career touchdown pass came on the ensuing possession, which began at the Arizona 41. Doug Martin broke off runs of 12 and eight yards on the drive and on 3rd-and-3 from the Arizona 8, Glennon found Mike Williams on a slant pattern for a 7-0 lead.

The Cardinals had trouble manufacturing drives in the first half, failing to pickup a third down conversion in six tries.

Tampa Bay scored again late in the half on a 50-yard field goal from Rian Lindell, who signed with the Bucs this offseason after spending the last 10 seasons in Buffalo.

Tampa took a 10-0 lead into the locker room.

Palmer got the Arizona offense moving in the third quarter, picking up eight first downs on two possessions, however a pair of interceptions derailed both drives and kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard.

Johnthan Banks picked off Palmer in the end zone following a 14-play drive and Darrelle Revis took advantage of an overthrow to Fitzgerald, easily reeling in his first interception as a member of the Bucs.

Martin's fumble on an exchange with Glennon early in the fourth quarter led to Feely 42-yard field goal, Arizona's first points since the first quarter of last Sunday's 31-7 loss against the Saints.

On the next Tampa Bay drive, Glennon completed quickly to Kevin Ogletree on 3rd-and-4, coming up inches short of the first down. The Bucs sent out the punting unit but snapped it to the up-man, Goldson, who scampered 22 yards for a first down. Tampa would ultimately punt three plays later.

Momentum shifted in Arizona's favor when on second down with 3:23 left, Glennon dropped back to pass rather than conservatively hand off to Martin. Glennon looked to the first down marker for Vincent Jackson, but Peterson jumped the rout and picked off the rookie. On the very next play, Palmer fired a dart in the end zone for Fitzgerald, who calmly reeled it in for the game- tying score.
