Brady and Moss in sync as Patriots roll past Bills

Sep 23, 2007 - 10:30 PM By Mike Petraglia PA SportsTicker Contributing Writer

FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (Ticker) - Tom Brady and Randy Moss are adjusting quite nicely to each other.

Brady tied a career high with four touchdown passes as the Patriots cruised to a 38-7 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

Acquired from the Oakland Raiders this offseason, Moss hauled in two of Brady's touchdown passes and finished with five receptions for 115 yards.

"There's a lot of things (Moss) can still work on," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. "He hasn't had that much time in the offense, but his production has been good. Tom (Brady) has been able to find him when he's been open and Randy has been able to convert."

The former Pro Bowl receiver has five touchdowns already this season and is the first player to crack the 100-yard receiving mark in each of his first three games with a new team.

Brady finished 23-of-29 for 311 yards and no interceptions as the Patriots (3-0) scored 38 points for the third consecutive week.

"I think the way the offensive line performed today was exceptional," Brady said. "It's kind of what they've been doing all year. They were doing such a good job run blocking, we had a lot of holes in the run game and they did a great job in pass protection and it allowed me to hold onto the ball a little bit longer."

While the Patriots are unbeaten through three games this season, the Bills (0-3) are winless and lost more than just the game.

Staring quarterback J.P. Losman did not return after injuring his left knee during the game's first series. Later in the first, linebacker Paul Posluszny, drafted out of Penn State, broke his left forearm while making a tackle.

"It was a long day for us in a lot of ways," Bills coach Dick Jauron said. "It didn't go anywhere near the way we hoped it would have gone. The injuries certainly played a role in that. How big? We'll never know, but (the Patriots) are a fine team, an outstanding team."

The Patriots fell behind early on as rookie running back Marshawn Lynch scored from 8 yards out to cap a 12-play, 80-yard drive, and give Buffalo a 7-3 edge.

It would be the lone bright spot of the day for the Bills.

The Patriots twice backed Buffalo deep into their own territory in the second quarter, leading to touchdown drives of 47 and 48 yards.

Brady found Ben Watson from 8 yards out to give New England the lead for good before Brady hit Randy Moss from 3 yards out for a 17-7 lead.

A 4-yard touchdown reception by Jabar Gaffney and a 4-yard run by Sammy Morris put the game out of reach in the third.

The icing on the cake came early in the fourth quarter as Brady connected with Moss on a 45-yard touchdown pass, the 106th touchdown reception of his career.

"It's fun to watch," Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi said. "We are watching it also, but we are not paying attention on the sidelines so when we saw it on the Jumbotron, we just looked at each other and shook our heads.

"(Moss) has shown us a few of those this year and when you watch the replay, it just amazes you."

Moss also surpassed 11,000 receiving yards for his career, becoming the 19th player in NFL history to reach the milestone.

Though failing to reach the end zone, Patriots running back Laurence Maroney piled up 103 yards on 19 carries, his second career 100-yard game.

Playing in place of the injured Losman, rookie Trent Edwards finished 10-of-20 for 97 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
