Lindell's field goal leads Bills over Saints

Aug 11, 2007 - 3:07 AM NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Drew Brees fared a lot better in his second preseason game but it still did not result in a win.

Rian Lindell kicked a 54-yard field goal with 3:23 to play, lifting the Buffalo Bills to a 13-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

While the loss dropped the Saints to 0-2 in the preseason, the team had to feel a lot better about the performance of Brees.

Following a dismal effort in the Hall of Fame game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, when he went 1-for-6 for six yards, Brees showed flashes of last season's form.

Brees finished 12-of-14 for 118 yards but could only lead the team to three points - a 42-yard field goal by Olindo Mare five seconds into the second quarter for a 3-0 lead.

Bills rookie running back Marshawn Lynch, the No. 12 pick, had just two carries for three yards. He was upstaged by second-year back Fred Jackson, who rushed for 49 yards on eight carries, including a 17-yard touchdown run with 2:09 to play in the third quarter.

Buffalo quarterback J.P. Losman finished 4-for-6 for just 20 yards before giving way to Craig Nall and rookie Trent Edwards, who was 10-for-11 for 49 yards.

Saints rookie Tyler Palko relieved Brees and completed 15-of-27 passes for 172 yards. He hit No. 1 pick Robert Meachem on a two-yard scoring pass but also threw two interceptions.

Saints second-year back Reggie Bush ran for 15 yards on two carries and caught three passes for 26 yards. Devery Henderson had three catches for 52 yards.
