Field goals lifts Steelers past Redskins

Aug 19, 2007 - 3:20 AM By Tim Hipps PA SportsTicker Contributing Writer

WASHINGTON (Ticker) - Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger got extended work, but Washington Redskins starter Jason Campbell's duty was cut short by a questionable hit Saturday night.

Connor Hughes kicked fourth-quarter field goals of 28, 22 and 19 yards and Jeff Reed added a 21-yarder in the first quarter to lift the Steelers to a 12-10 preseason victory over the Redskins.

Hughes' final boot from 19 yards with 1:31 remaining provided the difference.

On the Redskins' second possession, Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel sacked Campbell from behind and drew a penalty for illegal contact for chopping Campbell's left knee.

When Campbell finally got up and left the field on his own, Keisel walked and talked with the third-year quarterback to make sure Campbell was OK.

Campbell returned from the locker room in the first half to the sideline, from where he watched the remainder of the game. His injury was diagnosed as a bruised left knee.

Campbell completed 6-of-8 passes for 75 yards, including completions of 29, 14 and six yards to tight end Chris Cooley, who finished with five receptions for 60 yards.

Roethlisberger completed 8-of-12 passes for 87 yards for Pittsburgh (2-1).

Todd Collins replaced Campbell and completed 10-of-13 passes for 74 yards, including a 7-yard touchdown toss to Brandon Lloyd that gave Washington (1-1) a 7-0 lead with 5:50 remaining in the first quarter.

The last time Collins completed a pass during the regular season was December 19, 2004, against the Denver Broncos.

The touchdown ended the Redskins' streak of six preseason games without their first-team offense scoring a point. Washington's starters had last reached the end zone in a preseason game on Aug. 26, 2005 - also against the Steelers.

Steelers running back Willie Parker, who rushed for 1,494 yards last season, played for the first time this preseason. He managed only four yards on four carries.
