Carr drives Giants past Patriots
Aug 29, 2008 - 2:00 AM By Zachary Braziller PA SportsTicker Contributing WriterEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- David Carr is no longer a starter, but the top overall pick of the 2002 draft looked the part in the New York Giants' 19-14 victory over the New England Patriots on Thursday in the rematch of Super Bowl XLII and the preseason finale for both teams.
With each club resting their respective starting quarterbacks, the 29-year-old Carr played the majority of the game and led the Giants on two lengthy touchdown drives, tossing scoring strikes to Sinorice Moss and Darcy Johnson.
Carr, who completed 20-of-29 passes for 192 yards, led long drives which resulted in field goals by kicker Josh Huston.
The Giants elected to sit Eli Manning, opting to keep the Super Bowl MVP fresh for the team's season opener on September 4 against the Washington Redskins.
Manning led New York to a 17-14 triumph over New England in Super Bowl XLII.
For the fourth consecutive preseason game, Tom Brady remained on the sidelined for the Patriots.
Hobbled by a foot injury this summer, the two-time Super Bowl MVP and last season's league MVP is expected to be ready for New England's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 7.
Third-string quarterback Kevin O'Connell found Chad Jackson for a 16-yard score and also ran in from five yards out to rally the Patriots.
