Packers dominate Rams, move to 6-0

Oct 16, 2011 - 9:57 PM Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - Aaron Rodgers threw for 310 yards and three first-half touchdowns as Green Bay continued its superb start to the 2011 season with a 24-3 decision over St. Louis at Lambeau Field.

Jordy Nelson totaled 104 yards on two catches, including a career-best 93-yard TD reception for the Packers (6-0), who hadn't begun a season with six straight wins since 1965.

Donald Driver and James Jones each recorded a touchdown grab for Green Bay, which has won 12 games in succession, including playoffs, dating back to last December 26.

"I thought the team started fast, which is always the focus on a noon game, to come out here and get a commanding lead at halftime," said Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. "I thought the defense did a very good job keeping them out of the end zone, keeping the score at three. It wasn't a clean second half, but we did win by three touchdowns. We feel very good about being 6-0 and we're excited about the opportunity to go 7-0."

Sam Bradford completed 28-of-44 passes for 321 yards and one interception as the Rams (0-5), opened up a campaign with five straight losses for the second time in three years.

Steven Jackson paced the rushing attack with 96 yards on 18 carries, and Danario Alexander led the receiving corps with six catches for 91 yards.

"I said to the team that we do not accept losing and our actions will reflect that," admitted Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo. "It's about winning football games, not moral victories. We're going to reach a certain point and we're going to turn this thing around."

Early in the second quarter, Bradford missed Alexander on a 4th-and-3 from the Packers' 41, and the home team needed five plays to reach the end zone as Rodgers connected with Jones for a 35-yard TD and 10-0 advantage.

The Packers took a 17-0 edge on the first play of their ensuing series, as Rodgers hit Nelson in stride down the left side and he rumbled untouched 93 yards for another score. It was also the longest scoring pass in Rodgers' pro tenure.

"It helps when you throw a 25-yard pass and it turns into a 93-yard touchdown," said Rodgers when asked to what he can attribute his early-season success. "We've got some great weapons and some guys who can get open and make plays."

Driver hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass with under two minutes to play in the half and Green Bay held a commanding 24-3 edge at intermission after the Rams' lone successful drive resulted in a a 36-yard field goal from Josh Brown.

Bradford was picked off in the end zone by Sam Shields on the visitors' second drive of the second half, and another foray into Packers territory went by the wayside on Bradford's incompletion on 4th-and-6 from the 15 early in the fourth.

St. Louis then reached the Green Bay 29 with just over four minutes remaining, but on a 4th-and-7, a holding penalty preceded a sack and turnover on downs.

The Packers never relinquished control from there.

Mason Crosby connected on a 32-yarder to cap Green Bay's initial possession, which was the lone score of the opening quarter.
