McCoy sets franchise record as Eagles roll past Jets

Dec 19, 2011 - 2:21 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - LeSean McCoy broke the Eagles single- season touchdown record with three scores and Michael Vick threw for 274 yards and a touchdown as Philadelphia routed the New York Jets, 45-19.

McCoy finished the game with 102 yards on 18 carries for Philadelphia (6-8), which kept its slim playoff hopes alive. McCoy has 20 touchdowns on the season, which passed Steve Van Buren for the Eagles single-season touchdown mark. Van Buren scored 18 touchdowns in a 10-game season in 1945.

"It feels good to still have a chance to even be considered in the playoff race. We've been through a lot and this team is really resilient," said Vick. "We have a great deal of resolve and we just try to go out each and every week and get better."

Brent Celek caught five balls for 156 yards and a touchdown, while Jeremy Maclin had three receptions for 57 yards.

Jason Babin had three sacks, becoming just the 10th player in NFL history to record at least three sacks in back-to-back games. He also passed Minnesota's Jared Allen for the NFL sack lead with 18.

Mark Sanchez was 15-of-26 for 150 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Jets (8-6), who are now tied with the Cincinnati Bengals for the final wild-card spot in the AFC. New York holds the tiebreaker.

Santonio Holmes had four receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown, while Shonn Greene had 73 yards rushing on 18 carries.

The Eagles got off to a soaring start, reeling off the game's first 28 points.

Kurt Coleman stripped Holmes after a seven-yard reception on New York's first possession. Juqua Parker scooped up the loose ball and returned it 47 yards for the score.

After a Jets three-and-out on their ensuing series, T.J. Conley punted 44 yards to Philadelphia's 14-yard line, but as the ball bounced backward it hit the Eagles' Curtis Marsh and the Jets made the recovery. But Asante Samuel intercepted Sanchez on the Jets' second play after the turnover and the Eagles regained possession at the 23-yard line.

Vick found Celek for a 26-yard touchdown on the ensuing drive to cap off the seven-play, 77-yard march as Philadelphia took a 14-0 advantage late in the first quarter.

After another Jets three-and-out, Vick scampered in from 11 yards out to make it 21-0 early in the second quarter.

Sanchez fumbled on New York's ensuing drive, and Joselio Hanson recovered the ball in Jets territory at the 17-yard line. The miscue led to McCoy's nine- yard TD run up the middle for a 28-0 margin midway through the second quarter.

But the Jets fought back and scored the next 13 points to make it a 28-13 game at the half.

Nick Folk booted through a 39-yard field goal to put the Jets on the board, and Dion Lewis fumbled on the ensuing kickoff as New York recovered the ball at Philadelphia's 24-yard line. Three plays later, Sanchez found Holmes for a 25-yard score, and a 28-10 game with 4:42 left.

The Jets added another Folk field goal, this from 28 yards out, with 46 seconds left in the half.

The Eagles had a quick five-play, 89-yard touchdown drive on their opening second half possession to take a 35-13 lead. Celek had a 73-yard catch-and-run down the right sideline to the one-yard line, and McCoy punched it in two plays later.

Alex Henery made a 28-year field goal on the Eagles' next drive to make it 38-13 late in the third quarter, and McCoy scampered for a 33-yard score down the right sideline for his third touchdown early in the fourth quarter for a 45-13 lead.

"Obviously a horrendous performance by us, that goes without saying. That was about as bad as it gets, especially in the first half and early in the third quarter," Jets head coach Rex Ryan said. "We couldn't stop them on defense. We were turning the ball over on offense. It was a terrible performance."

Plaxico Burress made a tremendous diving one-handed touchdown reception from nine yards out to account for the final scoring. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

Game Notes

Celek accumulated the most yards by an Eagles tight end since Pete Retzlaff caught seven balls for 204 yards against the Washington Redskins on November 14, 1965...The 45 points scored was an Eagles season high, while the 45 points was the most allowed by the Jets this season...Celek's 73-yard reception was a career-high.
