Rivers, Chargers pound Titans

Sep 17, 2012 - 5:37 AM San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Phillip Rivers threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns to lead the San Diego Chargers to a 38-10 triumph over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Rivers completed 24-of-32 passes and Dante Rosario caught three touchdowns for the Chargers, who moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2006.

Jackie Battle added a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win.

"Everybody stepped up," Rivers said. "It was a heck of an effort."

Jake Locker completed 15-of-30 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown, and also led the Titans (0-2) rushing attack with 21 yards. Chris Johnson was held to just 17 yards on eight carries in the loss.

"It seems like we can't make more than a couple of plays in a row," Titans head coach Mike Munchak said. "It's frustrating."

Rivers led the Chargers down the field for a touchdown on the game's opening drive when he connected with Rosario for an 11-yard TD. Earlier in the drive, Rivers hit Malcom Floyd for a 27-yard gain before targeting the lanky- receiver again three plays later for a 14-yard pick up.

On the ensuing drive, Locker was intercepted by Eric Weddle, who returned it to the Titans 31. Rivers found Eddie Royal for a 20-yard gain before turning to Rosario three plays later for the score.

San Diego's defense then forced a three-and-out and took over on their own 42. Rivers found Ladarius Green for 31-yards to put the ball on the Tennessee 8- yard line, but the Chargers were forced to settle for a 26-yard Nate Kaeding field goal.

The Titans finally got on the board in the second quarter when Rob Bironas split the uprights from 23 yards out to cap a 10-play, 81-yard drive.

Rivers connected with Rosario in the end zone for a third time to go up 24-3. LeRon McLain broke off a 17-yard run and Rivers hit Floyd for 16-yards later in the drive to set up the touchdown.

Lavelle Hawkins returned the ensuing kickoff 71-yards to the San Diego 32 and three plays later, Locker found Kendall Wright for a 15-yard touchdown to pull within 24-10.
