Redskins edge Titans on 2-point conversion

Aug 9, 2013 - 3:30 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Pat White scrambled for a 9-yard score and then found Emmanuel Ogbuehi for the go-ahead two-point conversion, as the Washington Redskins rallied to a 22-21 victory over the Tennessee Titans in the preseason opener for both teams Thursday at LP Field.

Kirk Cousins got the start under center for the Redskins with superstar quarterback Robert Griffin III still recovering from a torn ACL and LCL he sustained in Washington's NFC wild-card loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Cousins completed 6-of-7 passes for 52 yards and a score, while backup Rex Grossman finished 10-for-21 for 119 yards and a touchdown. White, Washington's third-string quarterback, went 5-for-8 for 31 yards while rushing five times for 33 yards and a score.

Jake Locker, entering his third season, played most of the first half under center for the Titans, but finished just 7-for-11 for 58 yards. Third-stringer Rusty Smith completed 7-of-10 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Chris Johnson made the most of his two carries, taking one 58 yards for a touchdown. Shonn Greene, who signed a three-year deal with the Titans in the offseason, carried the ball five times for 32 yards and touchdown.

Cousins got the scoring started in the first, finding tight end Fred Davis for a 3-yard touchdown on Washington's second drive of the game. Davis, who tore his Achilles tendon in Week 7 last year, caught two passes for 14 yards.

Johnson broke free for a 58-yard touchdown on Tennessee's next play from scrimmage before Greene capped a 9-play, 61-yard march with a 19-yard TD scamper to make it 14-7.

Grossman found Leonard Hankerson for an 8-yard touchdown to send the teams into the break locked at 14-14.

After a scoreless third quarter, Smith finished off a lengthy 14-play, 94-yard trek with a 9-yard touchdown toss to Quinn Johnson to make it 21-14 Titans.
