Wilson leads Seahawks in rout of Broncos
Aug 18, 2013 - 6:05 AM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Russell Wilson had two touchdown passes in the Seattle Seahawks' 40-10 thumping of the Denver Broncos in preseason action.Wilson completed 8-of-12 passes for 127 yards for Seattle, which defeated the San Diego Chargers in its first preseason game.
Wilson, of course, emerged as Seattle's future during his rookie campaign last season, as the third-round pick led the Seahawks to an 11-5 record and had his squad within a play of the NFC Championship Game before a last-second Matt Bryant field goal lifted the Atlanta Falcons to victory.
Jermaine Kearse had a 107-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to go with a receiving score, while Brandon Browner returned a fumble 106 yards for a score in the triumph.
Peyton Manning was 11-of-16 for 163 yards with a touchdown for the Broncos, who topped the San Francisco 49ers in their first preseason tilt.
Demaryius Thomas had three receptions for 52 yards, while Wes Welker caught three balls for 31 yards and a score in the setback.
Seattle put up 17 points in the first and another 16 in the second to take a 33-7 advantage into the locker room.
Wilson led the Seahawks to a score on their first drive when he found Kearse for a 12-yard score and after Kam Chancellor recovered a Julius Thomas fumble, Steven Hauschka booted through a 42-yard field goal.
Manning found Welker for an 11-yard touchdown before the Seahawks immediately responded with Kearse's 107-yard kickoff return for a score.
Denver had a 2nd-and-goal at the 1-yard line midway through the second, but Heath Farwell forced a Ronnie Hillman fumble, which was recovered by Browner for the 106-yard touchdown.
Hauschka later kicked a 41-yard field goal before Wilson flipped a 3-yard TD pass to Sean McGrath with 32 ticks left in the half.
Tarvaris Jackson found Stephen Williams for a 38-yard score in the third and Matt Prater booted through a 33-yard field goal in the fourth to conclude the scoring.
