Quinn helps Seahawks slip past Packers
Aug 24, 2013 - 3:33 AM Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - Brady Quinn found Stephen Williams for a 42- yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to propel the Seattle Seahawks to a 17-10 preseason win over the Green Bay Packers. After his first two drives ended in punts, Quinn completed three straight passes before finding the preseason standout Williams, who jumped over a Green Bay corner to reel in his third touchdown of the preseason. Williams caught two passes for 58 yards and a touchdown while the former Notre Dame quarterback went 5-for-8 for 89 yards and a score.
Russell Wilson commanded the Seattle offense for the entire first half and into the second, completing 11-of-17 passes for 126 yards with two interceptions. Marshawn Lynch took just three carries for eight yards while rookie running back Christine Michael went for 97 yards and a score on 11 rushes. Doug Baldwin hauled in two passes for 36 yards.
Aaron Rodgers lasted only a series, connecting on 4-of-7 throws for 41 yards before giving way to Graham Harrell, who put up an underwhelming 49 yards on 6-of-13 passing. The Packers have been kept out of the end zone on all five Rodgers-led drives during the preseason.
Vince Young, battling for the backup quarterback job behind Rodgers, faired well, rushing three times for 39 yards and throwing for 41 yards and a touchdown on 6-of-7 passing.
Wilson was nearly perfect on Seattle's opening drive, completing all five of his passes to five different receivers and scrambling for 13 yards on the first play from scrimmage. However a sack on 2nd-and-goal held the visitors to a disappointing three points on a 27-yard Steven Hauschka field goal.
Mason Crosby knotted the score with a field goal of his own on Green Bay's first drive. Rodgers found tight end Jermichael Finley for 22 yards on second down from near midfield, but missed Finley in the end zone a few plays later, setting up the 38-yard kick.
Towards the end of the half, Harrell threw what appeared to be a 4-yard touchdown strike to Finley on 4th-and-2, but a replay review confirmed the ball hit the carpet before Finley gained possession, resulting in a turnover on downs.
The highlight of the night came early in the third quarter, when Michael burst through a hole and scored from 43 yards out. Rookie receiver Jermaine Kearse, who scored a pair of touchdowns a week ago, laid the key block downfield to spring Michael.
Green Bay's lone touchdown drive came when Young was the architect of an 11- play, 80-yard march that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown dump off to fullback Jonathan Amosa. Key plays on the drive included a 21-yard Young scramble and a 16-yard pass to tight end Andrew Quarless.
B.J. Coleman led the Packers inside the red zone late and found Jake Stoneburner, but a costly fumble at the Seattle 3-yard line ended the Packers' comeback hopes.
