Grossman, Redskins rout Bills
Aug 25, 2013 - 12:00 AM Landover, MD (Sports Network) - Rex Grossman tossed for 171 yards while Roy Helu picked up 70 on the ground as the Washington Redskins routed the Buffalo Bills, 30-7, in each team's third preseason game.Grossman, making his first start of the preseason, completed 11-of-21 passes and found Pierre Garcon in the first quarter for a 7-yard touchdown pass. Pat White also had success commanding the Washington offense, running for 26 yards and a score while hurling 96 yards on 7-for-14.
Grossman and White are likely battling for one roster spot behind second-year quarterbacks, Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins.
Keiland Williams ran for 52 yards and a score for the Redskins, who moved to 3-0 in the preseason.
Buffalo signal-caller Kevin Kolb started for the injured EJ Manuel but lasted just two series, completing 2-of-4 for 16 yards before leaving with concussion-like symptoms.
Jeff Tuel was given the remainder of the snaps under center but failed to lead a scoring drive. Tuel went 10-for-17 for 63 yards as the Bills lost for the first time this preseason.
Prior to departing, Kolb led a 66-yard touchdown drive, capped by C.J. Spiller's 2-yard touchdown plunge. Spiller picked up 39 yards on the ground on eight rushes.
White's first drive, which began with 11:26 remaining in the second quarter, lasted nine plays without Washington facing a single third down. White scored on a 14-yard scramble, giving the Skins a 17-7 edge.
Kai Forbath would go on to kick his second field goal of the half, a 53-yarder with 1:04 before intermission, giving Washington a 20-7 halftime lead.
Forbath would go on to kick another field goal late in the third, and Williams' 1-yard touchdown scamper early in the fourth capped the scoring.
The Redskins picked up 27 first downs in the victory while holding Buffalo to just eight. Washington, however, was penalized six times for 106 yards.
