Packers lose another QB and fall to Eagles

Nov 11, 2013 - 1:33 AM Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Foles threw for 228 yards with three touchdowns and Riley Cooper caught three passes for 102 yards with two scores, as the Philadelphia Eagles dispatched the Green Bay Packers, 27-13, at Lambeau Field.

Green Bay began life without Aaron Rodgers, who is sidelined with a broken collarbone suffered in Monday's loss to Chicago, and lost Seneca Wallace to a groin injury on Sunday after one series. Scott Tolzien, signed to the active roster from the practice squad just this week, threw a pair of interceptions and finished 24-of-39 for 280 yards with a touchdown in the loss.

"I thought Scott Tolzien played as well as to be expected, he made just the one throw down in the end zone where he probably wants that throw back and I'll tell you right now Scott Tolzien will start against the New York Giants," said Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

Foles connected with Cooper for touchdown passes of 45 and 32 yards in the third quarter, which gave the Eagles breathing room and extended their 10-3 halftime lead.

"It feels good to get the win, it was another great team win. We just have to keep moving," said Foles.

Philadelphia (5-5) scored on its first three possessions of the second half and kept the ball for the final 9:32 of the game after the Packers turned it over on downs deep in Eagles territory.

LeSean McCoy, the NFL's leading rusher, had 155 yards on 25 carries.

Green Bay (5-4) has lost two straight following a four-game winning streak and fell one game behind Detroit for the lead in the NFC North. The Lions beat the Bears on Sunday, 21-19.

The Eagles were forced to punt on their first possession and Green Bay started at its own 21-yard line where the Packers used a heavy dose of Eddie Lacy, handing the ball to the former Alabama product five times for 19 yards. Seneca Wallace was 5-of-5 for 25 yards before exiting with the injury.

On 3rd-and-14 at the Eagles 35-yard line, Wallace rolled out to his right on what developed into a broken play. After shedding one defender, he pump faked and threw it to tight end Brandon Bostick for no gain.

Mason Crosby's 53-yard field goal started wide right and couldn't curl in enough as the pigskin rang off the right upright.

It took the Eagles two plays to get the scoring going following the missed kick.

On 2nd-and-8, Foles went deep for DeSean Jackson for a 55-yard touchdown strike. The ball was slightly underthrown when Packers defensive backs Tramon Williams and Morgan Burnett undercut the route but ran into each other in the process, deflecting the ball up in the air right into the waiting arms of Jackson, who backed his way into the end zone.

Enter Tolzien, who went three-and-out in his first possession but orchestrated a 91-yard drive after an Eagles punt.

Tolzien hit Jarrett Boykin on 3rd-and-9 for a 36-yard highlight reel completion on the near sideline. But Eagles defensive back Brandon Boykin intercepted a pass on 3rd-and-3 from the Eagles 5 and returned it 76 yards to the Green Bay 27.

Philadelphia came up empty on the ensuing possession when Alex Henery missed a 39-yard field goal wide left.

Crosby missed another field goal, this time a 42-yard attempt, on the Packers' next possession.

Two successful field goals from each kicker ended the half. Henery made a 25- yarder and Crosby was good from 26 after Tolzien led Green Bay inside the Eagles 10-yard line in the final 1:16

The Packers went 15 yards on their opening march of the second half and were forced to punt. The Eagles wasted little time getting back on the scoreboard.

On first down from the 16, McCoy rushed off the right guard for nine yards and then followed that with a 30 yard burst up the far sideline into Green Bay territory.

Foles then went deep to Cooper on the very next play for a 45-yard touchdown. Cooper adjusted on the throw, dove for it at the 1-yard line and rolled into the end zone for the score.

On Green Bay's next drive, Tolzien threw a pass across the middle on first down intended for James Jones that was tipped by Cary Williams and intercepted by DeMeco Ryans, which resulted in a 41-yard field goal from Henery to extend the Eagles' lead, 20-3.

Two penalties prolonged the Packers' third drive of the second half when a defensive offsides was committed by Connor Barwin on 3rd-and-6, negating his sack.

Then on 3rd-and-2, Brandon Boykin committed a 30-yard pass interference penalty to set up a 22-yard touchdown reception from Brandon Bostick, his first career NFL touchdown.

Foles responded with another quick touchdown drive. He hit Jason Avant across the middle for 23 yards and then ran for 16 yards on 3rd-and-6 to continue the march into Green Bay territory. Two plays later, Foles hit a wide open Cooper on the near sideline for a 32-yard touchdown.

After another Crosby field goal, Foles was sacked by Mike Daniels and Tramon Williams. He fumbled on the play but was ruled down by contact. McCarthy challenged the ruling and it was reversed, which gave Green Bay the ball at the opposing 13-yard line.

On 4th-and-4 from the Eagles 7, Tolzien nearly hit Jordy Nelson in the far corner of the end zone but the play was ruled incomplete.

McCarthy challenged the ruling again but the call was upheld, and Philadelphia proceeded to run out the clock using a 16-play, 70-yard drive.

Game Notes

Green Bay has now lost two straight at Lambeau Field following a 10-game home winning streak ... Foles has thrown for 16 TDs this season and committed his first turnover of 2013 with the fumble in the fourth quarter. He has yet to throw an interception ... Philadelphia averages 28 points when Foles starts ... Green Bay was held under 20 points for just the second time this season. They are 1-1 in those contests ... The Packers travel to New York for a matchup with the Giants next week ... Philadelphia next hosts the Redskins, which will start a three-game homestand ... The Eagles aren't on the road again until Dec. 15 against Minnesota.
