Packers QB Favre closing in another milestone

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Brett Favre gets to grace the field that helped build the legend of Dan Marino on Sunday when the Green Bay Packers visit the Miami Dolphins.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback of the Packers also is closing in on another milestone entering the interconference matchup.

Chasing Marino - perhaps the greatest quarterback of all-time who played for the Dolphins from 1983-99 and holds virtually every passing record - Favre needs 110 yards passing to reach 55,000 for his career.

Favre is second to Marino in career passing yards (61,361) and touchdowns (420). Favre has thrown for 403 TDs in his illustrious 16-year career.

This will mark just Favre's second career visit to Miami, the other coming in 2000, when he completed 21-of-34 passes for 194 yards with an interception in a 28-20 loss.

In what could be his final season, Favre has thrown for 1,275 yards and seven touchdowns with five interceptions through five games. He goes up against the NFL's sixth-ranked pass defense in this one.

Two weeks ago, Favre threw for 220 yards and a touchdown but lost a fumble inside the St. Louis 15 with under 40 seconds left in a 23-20 loss to the Rams.

While Favre will extend his own NFL record with his 227th consecutive start, the Dolphins are expected to give Joey Harrington his third straight start in place of Daunte Culpepper.

Harrington, who is familiar with the Packers from his days with the Detroit Lions from 2002-05, has lost both of his starts since replacing Culpepper. He has completed 53-of-84 passes for 498 yards and one touchdown with four interceptions.

Last week, Harrington nearly rallied the Dolphins from a 17-point second-half deficit in a 20-17 loss against the New York Jets. Olindo Mare missed a 51-yard field goal in the final seconds.

After closing last season with a six-game winning streak, the Dolphins have been one of the NFL's biggest disappointments, dropping five of their six contests. They are in last place in the AFC East.

"It's getting to the point where it's embarrassing. "I'm embarrassed to be in the position we're in," Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor said.
