Moss, Raiders down Cardinals to notch first win

Oct 22, 2006 - 11:49 PM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Randy Moss and the Oakland Raiders handed the Arizona Cardinals their sixth straight loss.

Moss caught seven passes for 129 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown, and Andrew Walter outplayed Matt Leinart as the Oakland Raiders posted a 22-9 victory, giving Art Shell his first win.

Oakland also snapped an 11-game losing streak, dating to last season.

"It's not about me, it's about those guys in the locker room," Shell said. "I know how hard they work regardless of what everyone else thinks. We aren't going to let people define who we are as a team."

One week after blowing a 20-point second-half lead to Chicago, the Cardinals (1-6) could not muster any offense against the lowly Raiders (1-5).

Arizona coach Dennis Green, who was agitated enough to punch the podium in his postgame news conference last week, will not feel any better after this one. The Cardinals went 1-for-11 on third down and gained only 50 yards on the ground.

"Absolutely this is my fault," Green said. "I can't believe we are 1-6, but we are. It's my job to make sure the ship is being ruddered the right way."

After last Monday's loss at Chicago, Green fired offensive coordinator Keith Rowen and promoted quarterbacks coach Mike Kruczek to the position. But the move did little to shake up Arizona's offense.

Walter picked up his first career win against his former Pac-10 rival Leinart. A third-round pick in 2005 out of Arizona State, Walter completed 17-of-30 passes with an interception.

"I lost twice to him in college (against Southern California) but I'm 1-0 as a professional," Walter said. "It's just good to get a win period."

The second-year signal caller certainly appreciates the big-play capabilities of Moss.

"Randy goes out there and makes big plays, and he came down with the ball there for a great play," Walter said.

Oakland's LaMont Jordan did not play due to a back injury. Fourth-year back Justin Fargas gained 66 yards on 23 carries.

Leinart, a Heisman Trophy winner at USC and Arizona's first-round pick, was 12-for-31 for 194 yards with two interceptions.

"He (Leinart) was flustered," Raiders safety Stuart Schweigert said. "He was throwing the ball away real quick."

Edgerrin James gained only 34 yards for the Cardinals. A two-time rushing champion when he played for Indianapolis, James has yet to top 100 yards in a game for Arizona and has just 89 yards on 49 carries in his last two games.

"I wasn't ready for this, I really wasn't," James said. "I don't know what we're doing now."
