Culpepper to make return to Miami

MIAMI (Ticker) - Daunte Culpepper spent one forgettable season with the Miami Dolphins.

Culpepper makes his return to South Florida on Sunday when the Oakland Raiders face the Dolphins.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Culpepper was acquired by the Dolphins from the Minnesota Vikings following the 2005 campaign. Never fully recovered from a knee injury, Culpepper played in just four games for the Dolphins last season.

Culpepper's exit from Miami was all but certain after the Dolphins acquired Trent Green from the Kansas City Chiefs on June 6.

Days after Green's acquisition, Culpepper surprisingly showed up in minicamp, only to be escorted off the field by team officials. He finally was released on June 17.

Just over a month later, Culpepper found a new team, inking a one-year contract with the Raiders.

Culpepper started the season as a backup to Josh McCown. But with McCown suffering from a sore left foot, Culpepper started the second half and helped lead the Raiders to a 26-24 victory over the Cleveland Browns last Sunday. He went an efficient 8-of-14 for 118 yards.

While the focus will be on Culpepper's return, the Raiders are being led by running back LaMont Jordan, who is second in the NFL with 350 rushing yards.

The Cam Cameron era is off to a terrible start as the Dolphins are looking to avoid starting 0-4 for the first time since 2004 when they dropped their first six contests.

It has been a struggle defensively for the Dolphins, who allow 28.0 points per game to rank 26th in the league. They were fifth last season, surrendering 17.7 points per contest.

Last Sunday, Ronnie Brown accounted for 211 total yards (112 rushing, 99 receiving) and three touchdowns in the Dolphins' 31-28 loss to the New York Jets.
