Titans eye sixth seed, face Colts
Dec 30, 2007 - 11:24 AM Tennessee (9-6) at Indianapolis (13-2) 8:15 pm ESTINDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Tennessee Titans control their postseason destiny - and they face a team which has already locked up the AFC South Division and a first-round bye.
The Titans currently share the AFC's sixth seed with the Cleveland Browns (9-6), who host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
If Tennessee and Cleveland each win this weekend and finish at 10-6, the Titans clinch a playoff spot based on the third tiebreaker - a better record than the Browns against common opponents.
However, if both teams lose and finish 9-7, the Browns grab the playoff spot based on a better record against conference opponents (7-5 to 6-6).
Finally, the Titans also could sneak in with a tie and a Cleveland loss to San Francisco.
Tennessee was in a similar scenario last season, but it fell to the New England Patriots, 40-23, in the regular-season finale.
Last weekend, Tennessee beat the New York Jets, 10-6, and recorded six sacks and two interceptions en route to winning their third of their last four games.
On Sunday, the Titans travel to Indianapolis where they haven't won since November 3, 2002.
In Week Two, Peyton Manning completed 28 of 42 passes for 312 yards as Indianapolis topped Tennessee, 22-20, in the teams' previous meeting.
The Colts, who are locked in as the No. 2 seed, aren't tipping their hand as to how much - if at all - stars Manning, Reggie Wayne and Joseph Addai will play on Sunday.
Last weekend, Dallas Clark caught two scoring passes and Wayne had nine catches for 135 yards as Indianapolis breezed to a 38-15 victory over the Houston Texans.
