Ravens sign Lewis as third QB

Aug 14, 2017 - 8:01 PM The Baltimore Ravens signed journeyman Thad Lewis and waived fellow quarterback Dustin Vaughan on Monday.

Lewis is the latest quarterback to be signed by Baltimore since the team said it was considering controversial free agent Colin Kaepernick.

The 29-year-old Lewis has played for seven teams in as many seasons. The former Duke quarterback has registered a 2-4 mark as a starter with the Rams, Browns (twice), Lions, Bills, Texans, Eagles, and 49ers.

Lewis hasn't thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2013 and will serve as the team's third quarterback behind injured starter Joe Flacco and backup Ryan Mallett.

Vaughan, 26, held that distinction before struggling in Thursday's preseason opener.

Flacco is not expected to play in the preseason due to a back issue, but reportedly will be ready to start the regular-season opener against the host Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 10.
