49ers activate S Ward from PUP list

Aug 24, 2017 - 5:01 AM The San Francisco 49ers activated free safety Jimmie Ward off the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Wednesday.

Ward has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury during the team's conditioning test on the first day of training camp.

"Jimmie's a good player. He did a real good job for us in OTAs ... I was really excited to get him to camp here," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. "I know it hasn't gone the way he's wanted with his unfortunate injury. I know I'm excited. I think everyone's excited. I know he is. So, I look forward to getting him out there today."

Ward recorded 53 tackles, two forced fumbles and 1.0 sack in 11 games last season. The 26-year-old has collected 130 tackles, two interceptions and 2.0 sacks in 35 career contests since being selected with the 30th overall pick by San Francisco in the 2014 draft.
