Kaepernick all smiles after 49ers' hard-fought win

Sep 21, 2017 - 7:49 PM LOS ANGELES -- Colin Kaepernick has rallied San Francisco to bigger victories in the past, but none felt better to the 49ers quarterback than Saturday's 22-21 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

"Right now, yes, it feels like the best," said Kaepernick, who passed for two touchdowns, ran for a score and scored the game-winning, two-point conversion. "Definitely something that I really enjoyed today and enjoyed being out there with my teammates and being able to get this win with them. I think everybody is very excited about it."

The 49ers (2-13) wiped out a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to prevail. It started with a 13-yard scoring run by Kaepernick to slice the Rams' advantage to 21-14. A 10-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Rod Streater pulled the 49ers within a point with only 31 seconds remaining.

Kaepernick scrambled to his right on the two-point attempt, then leaped over two Rams' defenders into the end zone to halt the 49ers' misery.

"You know, it was an opportunity that we saw on film that we thought we could take advantage of," Kaepernick said. "We really thought that we were going to have the first guy coming out in the flat. They did a good job of covering that, and running with the overs as well, but the run-pass option is always good."

The 49ers believed it was a no-brainer to go for two. What did they have to lose?

"We all wanted him to go for two, and we were all happy he went for two," 49ers defensive lineman DeForest Buckner said, referring to coach Chip Kelly. "We're one-and-whatever and we just wanted to win. It was a great call."

Kaepernick finished 28 of 38 for 257 yards. He threw an interception in the first quarter that led to one of the Rams' three touchdowns. But the pick didn't matter in the end.

"It felt amazing," Kaepernick said of the win. "A feeling that this team has been looking for for a long time now. To be able to come out and get this win today was huge for us and it's something this team can build on."
