Colts put RG Mewhort on IR

Oct 14, 2017 - 7:02 PM The Indianapolis Colts placed starting right guard Jack Mewhort on the injured reserve list Saturday with a knee injury.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Mewhort aggravated a knee injury in Friday's practice, coach Chuck Pagano told reporters. Mewhort will have to undergo another surgery after his knee flared up during walk-throughs.

"He's been battling through [since] training camp," Pagano said. "Tough deal. Hate it for Jack and his teammates hate it. Next man up. ... He's going to have to have another procedure. We're going to miss him."

The 26-year-old Mewhort started all 45 games he played along the offensive line at right guard (five), left guard (36) and right tackle (four) over his four seasons (2014-17) in Indianapolis. He started all five games this season at right guard.

Mewhort's season was cut short in 2016 due to a knee injury. He was placed on IR for the final three games last season.

Mewhort was originally selected by the Colts in the second round (59th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.

To take the spot on the 53-man roster, the Colts signed offensive guard Isaiah Williams off the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad.

The 6-3, 306-pound Williams spent the 2016 season on the Washington Redskins' practice squad. He was released prior to the start of the 2017 season and signed to the Chiefs' practice squad on Sept. 4 where he spent the first five weeks.
