NFL Note - Chicago Bears McManis, Sherrick

Oct 20, 2017 - 8:10 AM DB Sherrick McManis (hamstring) continued missing practice Thursday due to an injury suffered against Baltimore. McManis' absence was one possible reason for Bears special teams allowing a punt return for a touchdown that let Baltimore tie the score Sunday.

Head coach John Fox didn't want players using McManis' absence as a crutch, particularly since he is unlikely to play against the Panthers. The Bears were also without Benny Cunningham on that coverage unit and Cunningham (hamstring) continued to practice on a limited basis Thursday after doing so Wednesday. His status for Sunday is uncertain.

"We didn't do a good job of containing," Fox said. "Whether we brought the gunners in or not, it's still the same number of people. It wasn't like we had nine guys out there."
