NFL roundup: Eagles outgun Rams despite Wentz's injury

Dec 12, 2017 - 12:30 AM LOS ANGELES -- Carson Wentz passed for four touchdowns, and Jake Elliott added three field goals to help lift the Philadelphia Eagles past the Los Angeles Rams 43-35 in a battle between NFC divisional leaders on Sunday.

Wentz didn't play after sustaining a knee injury in the third quarter. Nick Foles replaced Wentz and got the Eagles in position for Elliott's final field goal, from 33 yards with 3:45 to play.

Wentz left after taking a big hit on a third-quarter touchdown run that was called back because of a penalty. Quarterback Jared Goff threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns for the Rams (9-4).

The Eagles (11-2) rebounded after their nine-game winning streak was snapped against the Seattle Seahawks last week. The victory clinched the NFC East title.



Steelers 39, Ravens 38

PITTSBURGH -- Ben Roethlisberger passed for 506 yards, and Chris Boswell's 46-yard field goal in the final minute lifted Pittsburgh past Baltimore.

The Steelers (11-2) won their eighth consecutive game and clinched the AFC North Division title. Pittsburgh rallied from a 39-28 deficit with 2:31 left on a record performance by Roethlisberger. He completed a career-high 44 passes on a career-high 66 attempts, becoming the first quarterback with three 500-yard games. Antonio Brown caught 11 passes for 213 yards.

The Ravens (7-6) got two touchdown passes from Joe Flacco, while Alex Collins ran 18 times for 120 yards and a score.



Panthers 31, Vikings 24

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jonathan Stewart's third touchdown run of the game was a 1-yard leap with 1:47 remaining, lifting Carolina past Minnesota.

The Panthers (9-4) pulled into a tie for first place in the NFC South with the New Orleans Saints. The Vikings (10-3) had an eight-game winning streak snapped.

Carolina quarterback Cam Newton ran 62 yards on second down to take the ball to the Minnesota 8-yard line to set up the winning score. The Vikings failed to pick up a first down after the Panthers' go-ahead score.



Chiefs 26, Raiders 15

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City shook off the absence of All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters with one of its stronger defensive outings of the season, knocking off Oakland to remain tied for first in the AFC West.

Alex Smith finished 20 of 34 for 268 yards with an interception, and Kareem Hunt produced 116 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries as Kansas City (7-6) ended a four-game losing streak.

Tight end Travis Kelce had seven receptions for 74 yards and Tyreek Hill caught four passes for 75 yards as the Chiefs avenged an earlier one-point loss at Oakland (6-7).



Lions 24, Buccaneers 21

TAMPA, Fla. -- Matt Prater kicked a 46-yard field goal with 20 seconds remaining, allowing Detroit to keep its flickering playoff hopes with a victory over turnover-plagued Tampa Bay.

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford completed five consecutive pass attempts on a nine-play, 49-yard drive that led to Prater's winning kick.

Stafford, whose status was unknown all week because of an injury to his right throwing hand, completed 36 of 44 passes for 381 yards and one touchdown. Meanwhile, running back Theo Riddick had a pair of scoring runs for the Lions (7-6). The Buccaneers (4-9) committed five turnovers.



Bills 13, Colts 7 (OT)

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- LeSean McCoy ran for a 21-yard touchdown with 1:39 remaining in overtime to give Buffalo a victory over Indianapolis.

McCoy rushed for 158 yards on a career-high 32 carries and surpassed 1,000 yards on the season. The Bills (7-6) weathered relentless snow, swirling winds and near whiteout conditions to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Frank Gore rushed for 130 yards on a career-high 36 carries for the Colts (3-10). Jacoby Brissett completed 11 of 22 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown to tight end Jack Doyle.



Cowboys 30, Giants 10

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Running back Rod Smith had an 81-yard touchdown reception and then followed that with a 15-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter as Dallas manhandled hapless New York.

Dak Prescott completed 20 of 30 passes for 332 yards and three touchdowns for the Cowboys (7-6).

Quarterback Eli Manning, back for the Giants (2-11) after being benched last week for Geno Smith, completed 31 of 46 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown. He threw two interceptions.



Packers 27, Browns 21 (OT)

CLEVELAND -- Green Bay overcame a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit and beat Cleveland on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Brett Hundley to wide receiver Davante Adams.

The Packers (7-6) kept their playoff hopes alive in the NFC. The Browns (0-13) missed out on their best chance to get into the win column.

Hundley threw the winning touchdown pass with 5:05 left in overtime. He was 35 of 46 for 265 yards with three scoring passes. Browns quarterback DeShone Kizer threw three TD passes and two interceptions.



49ers 26, Texans 16

HOUSTON -- Jimmy Garoppolo recorded his second victory in as many starts as San Francisco claimed a win over Houston.

Garoppolo passed for 334 yards and produced his second touchdown pass with the 49ers, a 6-yard strike to tight end Garrett Celek with 1:53 remaining in the third quarter. That play snapped a 16-16 tie and helped lift the 49ers (3-10) to their second consecutive road triumph.

San Francisco kicker Robbie Gould drilled field goals of 52, 35, 25 and 41 yards to aid the cause. The 49ers knocked out Texans quarterback Tom Savage in the second quarter. Backup T.J. Yates engineered consecutive scoring drives upon entering the game, capping both with touchdown passes to receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the Texans (4-9).



Bears 33, Bengals 7

CINCINNATI -- Mitchell Trubisky passed for 271 yards and a touchdown, and Jordan Howard rushed for 147 yards and two scores, lifting Chicago to a victory over Cincinnati.

Kendall Wright had 10 catches for 107 yards, helping Chicago (4-9) snap a five-game losing streak. Tarik Cohen ran for 80 yards for the Bears, who rushed for 228 yards.

Cincinnati (5-8) was minus four defensive starters, including top tacklers Vontaze Burfict and Nick Vigil, but it was a miserable afternoon for the Bengals and quarterback Andy Dalton, who passed for 141 yards with a touchdown and interception.



Jaguars 30, Seahawks 24

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Blake Bortles passed for two touchdowns, and Jacksonville intercepted Russell Wilson three times in a win over Seattle.

The victory pushed the Jaguars (9-4) into sole possession of first place in the AFC South.

Cornerbacks A.J. Bouye and Jalen Ramsey came up with the interceptions of Wilson, who had eight picks coming into the game. Bouye picked Wilson off twice, while Ramsey intercepted Wilson late in the first half. Seattle Wilson also threw three touchdown passes for the Seahawks (8-5).



Chargers 30, Redskins 13

CARSON, Calif. -- Los Angeles remained among the hottest teams in the NFL, beating Washington for its fourth win in a row.

The result sets up a battle for first place in the AFC West on Saturday when the Chargers play at Kansas City. The Chargers and the Chiefs are tied for first with 7-6 records.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers threw for 318 yards and two touchdowns. Tyrell Williams (four catches, 131 yards, one touchdown) and Keenan Allen (six catches, 111 yards) did the bulk of the receiving for Los Angeles. Washington (5-8) managed just 201 total yards.



Broncos 23, Jets 0

DENVER -- Trevor Siemian led five scoring drives, including one ending in a 20-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas, and Denver's defense put on a forceful show as the Broncos snapped their longest losing streak in 50 years by blanking New York.

Brandon McManus kicked field goals of 31, 53 and 40 yards, and fullback Andy Janovich had a 1-yard touchdown run, helping the Broncos (4-9) end an eight-game losing streak.

The Jets (5-8) went virtually nowhere on offense and lost quarterback Josh McCown, who was shaken up for the second time in the game when he took a hit from Broncos linebacker Shane Ray as he released a pass.



Cardinals 12, Titans 7

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Phil Dawson kicked four field goals, Marcus Mariota was intercepted twice, and Arizona outlasted Tennessee.

The Cardinals (6-7) got two field goals from Dawson in the fourth quarter, the last from 35 yards out with 3:45 left to play. The kick came after Mariota's second interception of the game, as linebacker Josh Bynes picked off the pass over the middle.

The Titans (8-5) had their two-game winning streak snapped while managing just 204 total yards.
