49ers sign WR McCaffrey off Packers' practice squad

Dec 13, 2017 - 6:11 PM The San Francisco 49ers signed wide receiver Max McCaffrey from the Green Bay Packers' practice squad on Wednesday.

To make room on the roster, the 49ers placed wide receiver Victor Bolden Jr. on injured reserve.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound McCaffrey originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Duke with the Oakland Raiders on May 10, 2016. After being waived, he was signed to the Green Bay Packers' practice squad in December 2016 before being promoted to the active roster on Jan. 21. He was inactive for the NFC Championship against the Atlanta Falcons.

McCaffrey, 23, was waived by the Packers on Sept. 2 and signed two days later to the New Orleans Saints' practice squad. On Sept. 12, he was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars' active roster where he appeared in five games and registered one reception for 4 yards prior to being waived on Oct. 21. He was signed to the Packers' practice squad on Oct. 24.

McCaffrey's father, Ed, spent 13 seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants (1991-93), 49ers (1994) and the Denver Broncos (1995-2003) and his brother, Christian, plays for the Carolina Panthers.

The 5-8, 178-pound Bolden signed with the 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 4. He appeared in nine games this season and recorded 19 kickoff returns for 396 yards, four punt returns for 23 yards and one forced fumble on special teams.
