Steelers WR Brown won't need surgery for torn calf

Dec 18, 2017 - 2:24 AM Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown partially tore his left calf muscle on Sunday in Pittsburgh's 27-24 loss the New England Patriots, multiple media outlets reported.

Though unlikely to play next week, Brown won't require surgery, and the Steelers hope he will be back for the postseason, according to NFL.com and ESPN.com.

Brown was taken to a local hospital for X-rays after sustaining a left calf injury in the second quarter at Heinz Field. His lower leg collided with New England defensive back Eric Rowe in the end zone. Brown was helped off the field to the chants of "MVP, MVP."

Earlier in the game, Brown caught his 100th pass of the season to become the only player in NFL history with 100 catches in five consecutive seasons.

Brown has put himself into the MVP conversation with 101 catches, 1,533 yards and nine touchdowns.
