Report: O'Brien likely to remain with Texans
Jan 2, 2018 - 12:22 AM The Houston Texans are expected to retain Bill O'Brien as their coach next season, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.O'Brien's future with the team has been in question as the Texans (4-11) enter Sunday's season finale against the host Indianapolis Colts (3-12).
This disappointing campaign, which featured injuries to star defensive end J.J. Watt and promising rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson among others, comes on the heels of back-to-back AFC South titles for Houston.
O'Brien has one season remaining on a five-year deal he signed when he became the Texans' coach in 2014.
The 48-year-old O'Brien said earlier this month that that he "will never quit as head football coach of the Houston Texans. Ever."
O'Brien has received public endorsements from Watson, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.
"We have a bond here with the coaching staff and the players and maybe it's because of all the things that we kind of had to deal with this year," O'Brien said earlier this week. "Those guys are good guys. You guys know me now for four years, pretty emotional when it comes to those players. They put in a lot of time, they put it on the line for us in a pretty violent game and so that means a lot to me when they say that."
O'Brien has a 31-32 record with the Texans entering Sunday's game.
No one has shouted yet.
