Bisaccia latest assistant expected to leave Cowboys

Jan 4, 2018 - 8:29 PM The Dallas Cowboys coaching staff under head coach Jason Garrett continues to be overhauled.

On Wednesday, it was reported that quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson and secondary coach Joe Baker will not be back for 2018.

On Thursday, multiple media outlets reported that special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia will be allowed to leave even though his contract with the Cowboys runs through the 2019 season.

Bisaccia's departure may be his choice, as he reportedly is likely to join Jon Gruden's staff when Gruden is named the Oakland Raiders' head coach, as expected.

Bisaccia was Gruden's special teams coordinator for all seven seasons Gruden was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach. Bisaccia was named the Bucs' assistant head coach in 2008.

Bisaccia had been the Cowboys' assistant head coach and special teams coordinator since 2013. The Cowboys' coverage team was among the best in the NFL this season, allowing just 75 punt return yards, fewest in the league. Dallas' kick and punt return units were only average.

ESPN also reported that the job of Cowboys offensive line coach Frank Pollack may be in jeopardy.

Dallas ranked second in the NFL in rushing each of the past two seasons, but pass protection was not as good this season.

The Cowboys allowed 32 sacks in 2017, and 22 came in the final eight games.
