Brady faces Favre for only the second time

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- Tom Brady makes his first trip to Lambeau Field to face Brett Favre on Sunday when the New England Patriots meet the Green Bay Packers in an interconference contest.

A two-time Super Bowl MVP with three championship rings, Brady is in his prime at 29 years of age.

Favre is the NFL's only three-time MVP and earned a championship ring with a 35-21 victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI after the 1996 season. But at 37, this could be Favre's last season.

Brady and Favre have met just once before. Four years ago at Foxboro, Favre threw for three touchdowns and Ahman Green rushed for 136 yards and scored twice as the Packers posted a 28-10 victory.

Brady threw for 183 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted three times.

Favre has a career record of 154-96, including playoffs. Brady is 74-24 - the best record of any NFL quarterback in the Super Bowl era with at least 40 starts.

This season, Brady has completed more than 59 percent of his passes for 2,054 yards and 15 touchdowns with nine interceptions for a passer rating of 83.7.

Favre, who has started an NFL record 250 consecutive games, including playoffs, has completed nearly 58 percent of his passes for 2,295 yards and 13 touchdowns with seven interceptions for a rating of 81.3.

Favre is second all-time in passing yards (55,910) and touchdowns (409) behind Dan Marino.

Last week, Favre threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers' 23-17 win at Minnesota. Donald Driver caught six passes for a career-high 191 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown.

Rookie linebacker A.J. Hawk, the fifth overall pick in the draft, starred on defense with 13 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.

Brady was sacked four times and intercepted once in the Patriots' 17-14 loss to the New York Jets last week. Seeking their fourth straight AFC East title, the Patriots lead the Jets by just one game.

Brady has had to adjust to a different set of receivers after losing last year's starters - Deion Branch and David Givens. Branch was traded to Seattle due to a contract dispute and Givens signed with Tennessee.

Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney were signed as free agents, Doug Gabriel was acquired from Oakland and Chad Jackson was drafted in the second round. The lone holdover at receiver is Troy Brown, who has been with the Patriots since their Super Bowl loss to Green Bay.

Caldwell had nine catches for 90 yards and a touchdown in last week's loss to the Jets.

Corey Dillon produced 98 yards on just 11 carries in the loss to the Jets.
