Giants look to avoid three-game losing streak

Nov 21, 2006 - 11:20 PM NY Giants (6-4) at Tennessee (3-7) Sunday 4:15 pm EST

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- If Eli Manning and the New York Giants' offense is going to get untracked, this may be the week to do it.

The Giants try to avoid a third straight loss Sunday when they visit the Tennessee Titans in an interconference game.

While their defense has been decimated by injuries, the Giants have struggled offensively in losing their last two games against Chicago and Jacksonville.

Manning has completed just 33-of-73 passes (45 percent) for 351 yards and one touchdown with four interceptions.

Last Monday night, Manning went 19-of-41 for 230 yards and a TD with two interceptions in a 26-10 setback at Jacksonville. Tiki Barber also was limited to a season-low 27 yards on 10 carries.

But Manning and Barber should have a chance to turn things around against the Titans, who rank 31st in total defense, allowing 375.9 yards per game.

The losing streak has dropped the Giants into second place in the NFC East, one-half game behind Dallas, which beat Tampa Bay on Thursday. New York hosts Dallas next week.

Before looking ahead to Dallas, New York must contend with a Tennessee team that is 2-1 against the NFC East and has been showing improvement since Vince Young took over from former Giant Kerry Collins as the starting quarterback.

Young, who has completed just 46 percent (90-of-197) of his passes for 1,074 yards and six touchdowns with eight interceptions, is 3-4 as the starter. He also has rushed for 225 yards and three scores.

Last week, Young threw for a touchdown and Travis Henry rushed for 143 yards and a score as Tennessee rolled to a 31-13 victory at Philadelphia.

Young and Henry will be facing a Giants defense, which was without four starters - ends Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora, linebacker Brandon Short and cornerback Sam Madison - last week.

Tennessee is just 1-3 at home.
