Texans look to put Ike behind them, visit Titans
Sep 16, 2008 - 7:03 PM Houston (0-1) at Tennessee (2-0), 1:00 pm EDTNASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- After Hurricane Ike washed out their home opener and devastated Reliant Stadium, the Houston Texans must turn their attention to football.
Coming off an unexpected bye week, the Texans take on the undefeated Tennessee Titans on Sunday in a battle of AFC South rivals.
While the Texans are still trying to deal with the fallout from Ike, which included heavy damage to their home stadium, they have to play a Titans team that has dominated them since their inception.
Tennessee owns a 10-2 record, including a six-game winning streak, against its division foe since Houston entered the league in 2002.
The division-leading Titans also are a confident bunch after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-7, last Sunday despite the distraction caused by Vince Young during the week.
Young, who suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee that will sideline him for two to four weeks in the season opener, received a lot of media attention after coach Jeff Fisher called police for help in locating the athletic quarterback last Monday night reportedly due to concerns over his emotional well-being.
To make things worse, the quarterback's mother, Felicia Young, also told a local newspaper that her son had indicated he didn't want to play football anymore because of all the negativity he faced.
The team didn't seem to miss Young on the field, though, as Kerry Collins was efficient in Sunday's win. He completed 14-of-21 passes in windy conditions for 128 yards and a touchdown.
"I would expect him to start Sunday," Fisher said of Collins. "I don't know as to what Vince's condition is but as long as we're winning, Kerry is our quarterback right now."
Damage from Ike forced the postponement of Monday night's game between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens. The game was rescheduled for November 9 at Reliant Stadium, necessitating that the Texans and Ravens each used last weekend as their bye.
This contest is the first of have back-to-back road games for Houston before it returns home against the Indianapolis Colts on October 5. It is unclear whether Reliant Stadium will be ready by then.
