Titans attempt to continue perfect start at Ravens
Sep 30, 2008 - 5:48 PM Tennessee (4-0) at Baltimore (2-1), 1:00 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- It's already the best start in franchise history for the Tennessee Titans.
Behind a tenacious defense, the Titans will try to keep it going Sunday when they visit the Baltimore Ravens.
Four turnovers turned into a 4-0 start for Tennessee last Sunday. The Titans recovered three fumbles and had one interception in a 30-17 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Tennessee turned three of the turnovers into 21 points by scoring on touchdown drives of 33, 11 and 6 yards.
"It's great to be 4-0, but it's a long season," Titans cornerback Nick Harper said. "We're going to take those four and put them in the back pocket and start on the next four."
Rookie Chris Johnson rushed for a pair of touchdowns as Tennessee won its first four games for the first time in franchise history. A first-round selection, Johnson has 337 rushing yards and two TDs this season, providing a change of pace from the bigger LenDale White.
The Titans will not have the only stout defense on the field at M&T Bank Stadium this Sunday. The Ravens have the top-ranked defense in the NFL, allowing just 186.7 yards per game.
The defense was not enough Monday night as Baltimore squandered a 10-point halftime lead and suffered a 23-20 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"We let an opportunity get away," Ravens linebacker Bart Scott said. "We had an opportunity to take control of our division. Things get a little tougher. We did some good things, did some bad things. We need to watch the tape and learn from (the bad things)."
It was the first loss for Baltimore, which fell behind the Steelers in the AFC North Division.
The Titans, who are one of just three undefeated teams in the league, do not share the Ravens' problems. They enter this contest with a two-game lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South.
